I know what you mean...I am about to invest in one myself. I just recently figured out that you can actually right-click on your sketch while you're drawing and you can zoom in (multiple times, if you like) so you can work in finer detail. I know that working with a mouse or touchpad on a laptop is a major pain in the a**; maybe this would help a little until you're able to add the sketch tablet :)
