Glad to know you're still alive, Starks! I know how busy you must be and how time-consuming school and all are so, don't feel pressured about having to Sketchfu...I hope everything works out for you with your portfolio; I know Lewicron is trying to put one together in between his studies too. Best wishes and keep on sketchin'!
Hey man, cheers for checking it out. The reorked version is getting there, but I have had so much on at work recently that I haven't had a chance to finish it. I've got a long weekend coming up, though, so I hope to get it done then.
Yes...you're mixing films up. Zatoichi has always been blind, his character plays a blind masseuse (a traditional role for blind people in Japan) who is a skilled swordsman. His style of swordfighting is unorthodox; he holds the 'katana' (or sword) overhanded--in other words, the blade of the sword is on the opposite side of his thumb--the traditional method has the blade on the side of the thumb (does that make sense?). He was always a hero because although he killed a lot of people, it was in the name of justice. He was extremely dangerous because people assumed he was blind but he had an extraordinary sense of hearing, smell and touch not to mention lightning-fast skills. Check out this link for more info...you'll be glad you did: http://www.search.com/reference/Zatoichi
Actually Zatoichi IS blind...that's what makes him such a badass...lol. The actor who played the character, Katsu Shintaro, wasn't blind...but he sure played the part well. Thanx for the comment
Hey Starks...Lewicron just added a new pic "Police State 2060"...I suggested to him that I would love to see one of YOUR awesome backgrounds added to it...I can envision a FREAKISHLY AWESOME result!!! Are you up for the task?
Hey, it matters not...its what's in your mind that you're able to transfer through your hand onto paper (or screen) that's most important. In a way, recreating something that already exists ie., bodies, faces, objects (still life, etc.) realistically could be construed as the penultimate achievement in art but I subscribe to the notion that art should be FREE...unemcumbered by rules for the most part. There is a time and place for 'realistic' renderings but also, and more importantly, CREATIVITY is the essence of all art. I believe original ideas are a lot harder to execute and to come by than things that are already in existence. Also, you don't run as much risk of criticism because there is no basis for comparison with a known object/person. Anyway, you get my drift, I'm sure. Keep up the bitchingly cool pics...I really do enjoy them a lot!
